About

Nicole Meliefste

wife & mother

compassionate caregiver

I have always found the human body fascinating and absolutely amazing. This stems deeply from my belief in the divine creation of all things, and most exquisitely, people. After a year at university in the sciences and knowing I didn’t feel a pull to medical school or nursing I nannied for the summer and then landed a job at a health spa/chiropractic clinic. I delighted in the exposure to different avenues of health and wellness care and perspective of the body’s own healing potential. It was while working as a chiropractic assistant I first discovered my interest in midwifery and also massage. From 2011 to 2013 I completed a two year program for massage therapy in Alberta and since then I have wholeheartedly enjoyed helping many individuals regain and maintain muscle and joint health through the modality of massage and manual osteopathic techniques. I worked as an RMT for over 5 years in Edmonton, Alberta and in 2017 our family relocated to British Columbia. After a year of massaging at a high end spa, and a maternity leave with our third baby, I started my own business in August of 2019. I have the opportunity now to travel to my clients homes, offering mobile non-RMT massage, and have the freedom of schedule to work as a doula too! Currently, I hold membership with the Natural Health Practitioners of Canada association, whom holds me accountable for standards of practice and continuing education requirements.

In addition to whole body health and muscular-skeletal functioning I have a deep passion for pregnancy and child birth. Being drawn towards a midwifery career over 15 years ago, I am so pleased to still be on this path of education and experience. In 2019 I attended Doula Canada’s training at Douglas College. At that time I started working as a doula to enhance my application to UBC’s midwifery program. However, I fell in love with the unique, impactful, and essential role of a doula and have put my midwifery dreams on hold just a little longer. I am still a sponge for all birth education, so within the balance of family and scheduled work, you will often see me listening to podcasts and webinars, or searching for the next in person workshop to attend. With now 5 amazing children of our own earth-side (and one angel in heaven), I am also ever grateful for my personal journey into motherhood. Each birth I have experienced and supported has shaped my ability to walk so many other new mothers and parents along their way. I have a deep dedication to empowering mothers and families in their pregnancy and birth, fostering an environment of informed choice, affirmation, and confidence, leading to positive experiences and outcomes.

I am so excited to hear your story. I love to listen and can’t wait to learn how I can help you whether you are in search of massage or doula care.

About the name, Leafsta

If you’re having trouble pronouncing my last name, Meliefste, this is why I chose the name “Leafsta” (to help us all out phonetically). In dutch, Meliefste means “my loved one”, “my dear”, or “my beloved”. My compassion and care for my clients runs deep and I wanted to express that in my business name. And my profound hope is that you cherish yourself and take opportunities to restore and maintain wellness in your life to the benefit of yourself and those you love most. In addition, the roots of wellness are natural, nature, leaves, etc…Leafsta.
